Thanks for the explanation! Much appreciated! 'Save as' and exporting as IDML aren't really possible from within WoodWing. But if I run into this problem more often I'll contact the developer of WoodWing for a solution for THAT shortcoming. 😉

Well, I'll be... saving the document as idml worked! I saved the faulty doc as idml, opened the idml and the faulty text was corrected! How odd is that! Unfortunately copying the now correct textframe into the old document doesn't work... Somehow that file is indeed corrupted. Now it's great of course that I can remedy a problem like this this way but a little problem is that all my documents are in the cloud (WoodWing Studio) and so I can't really simply save it as idml and then restore it... I have to replace the file in WW Studio but then also reconnect ALL used images... which is a chore... So yes, this works but I would love to know what has happened and how that file got corrupted... BTW Clearing the font cache and other tips didn't help unfortunately.

Oops, my bad, should have added that information, of course. I am using InDesign 17.4.2 (in this case) on OS X 15.3. Changing the font and changing it back doesn't work. The font is installed in the system: I don't use any font managers (anymore). The font was bought around 7 years ago by my company: I don't know where they got it from... I will try siging out and clearing the cache and report back! EDIT BTW In addition: when I copy the 'faulty text' into a brand new document it remains pink. However, when I create a new document, type something in the problematic font (and all goes well) and then paste the faulty text in the new document, it's alright! It's also the other way around: if I create a new document and first paste the faulty text in it and then type something with that font into a new frame it's also pink. Really odd. If I copy the 'corrected' text from the new doc into the old one it becomes pink again... It's so strange...

I have a problem with a certain font, Geomanist Regular. I saved a document in which it was used and after opening it again later on suddenly the text in that font is highlighted in pink... while the font really is there! If I create a new document and use that same font all is fine. See attached screenshot. On the left is the document in which the font simply won't work and on the right is a document in which is clearly does work. On the left I also open the font screen and there you can also see the font really is there. If I copy the text frame on the right to the document on the left it also suddenly becomes pink. So clearly ONLY this particular document won't see or load the font, even though I can use it well in another document that's opened at the same time! So... why is the font highlighted in pink?! I also can't export the page as pdf due to this.

Aaaaaaah, that's it! I had to search for a while because I am using a Dutch version and in Dutch that option is called 'Veld activeren' (which would translate to 'Activate field'). I also didn't notice that adding a script also adds the action that goes along with it: I changed the action at the top of that screen a few times but that is only used to setup a new action you want to add so nothing changed... If you get what I mean. But anyway, I got it working now! Awesome! Thanks for all the help! 🙂

The boxes stay green after checking them (this version shows the V again) but the tab key only moves between the beoxes and don't tick them as in your pdf.

Hm, this is soooo odd... I tried to do what you did, I copied the exact same settings and the exact same script but in MY pdf tabbing does NOT do what it does in your pdf... It simply moves to the next box without checking the previous one. So odd... I don't understand why it DOES work in your pdf but not in mine with the exact same settings (as far as I can see). Of course I am happy with the file you edited but if I can't create this option myself it's not of real use for me (like whenever I need to change something in the checklist). Very odd... I must be missing something obvious but I just can't get it done.

Wow, cool, thanks! And I am sorry: I think I uploaded the wrong version without the script indeed... But great to see it works in your pdf!!! I will keep this one for future reference and see if I can figure out why the script didn't work for me... Perhaps because I added it with a hard return in the middle (as was posted in this topic). See attachement! As it is now tab selects the next checkbox and space fills it with a black square. Preferably I'd want to check and move on to the next box with just ONE keystroke and I'd like to have the ticked item to say in green permanently. If at all possible... 😉 BTW I am quite happy with how it is right now already but the main thing I'd like to get done is having to use only ONE keystroke to tick an item and move to the next. Changing it to green would be nice but is less important. 😉

Hm, odd, when I press tab (with the script applied) it simply moves to the next box without checking anything. Only if I press the spacebar the box get ticked and green, but that green only stays green as long as the box is still selected. Once I press tab again the green color is gone. But well, anyway, what I've got now is more than I had when I started my quest so... it's fine as it is. 😉

Wow, that's cool! I did a Google search on how to add scripts 😉 and I got! BTW I also found out (thanks to your post) than tab already automatically moves you to the next box... But... if I may ask two more things: - your post seems to imply (but I coould be totally wrong 😉 ) that by pressing tab the box should be ticked and turn green. However, after tabbing the next box is selected (which already happens by default) but I still have to press the spacebar to make the box green and then tab again (tab - space - tab - space etc.). Not a problem at all, I am very happy with this script already but if just using one key to make a box green AND select the next one that would be great. 😉 - the box only turns green while being active... Once I tab to the next box the previous isn't green anymore and simply shows the default V (tick). But well, no reall problem because I also found out in the meantime how to change the V-tick to a black square which is also nice already. 😉

I posted the following in the InDesign forum (Interactive checklist which automatically pre-selects next option) and was adviced to try it here. 😉 So here is a copy of my previous post: I have a checklist with some 40 items. Each line has a box in front and when I create a pdf I can click on a box to 'tick' it. Nice. But not what I want. I'd like to create a checklist which starts with the first line selected. I want to be able to tick the item with the spacebar after which the next item should automatically be selected in order to tick it and so on down the list. So: 1. first item is selected 2. I press the spacebar which ticks the first item 3. after which the next item is automatically selected 4. I then can tick that selected item with the spacebar 5. after which the next item is selected 6. and so on Is this possible with InDesign...? (EDIT Or using Acrobat?) It would also be great already if after ticking an item I could select the next item using the arrow keys. I have to create a book with hundreds of similar er... (what's the English word) short lists. I have attached three jpg's. Number 1 shows how the text is delivered to me (showing only 4 'lists' as an example). Number 2 shows what it looks like after I applied the styles I made for each line (there are 5 different styles): I use the option to automatically assign the next style so everything has the proper format/lay-out as desired with just one click, so including the extra spaces and the line. (Excuse my bad English... 😉 ). So far, so good. Now the problem is number 3: the last three lines of each 'item' needs to get a 'header' in a different font. I wonder if it is possible to automatically add 'Header 1', 'Header 2' and 'Header 3' in these specific spots including a tab behind it AND in that specific bold font. Can this be done somehow using the styles...? Or GREP perhaps? Or in any other way? I'd hate having to add those three headers manually everywhere. (I do know how to give 'Header 1' etc. a specific substyle using GREP but then I'd still have to add the words 'Header 1' etc. manually everywhere...)

No, thanks for chiming in but I work with the publishing system WoodWing which completely works in the cloud and I simply need InDeisgn 16.3 or higher for that. I can't export or save as or anything. I contacted Adobe twice again today but they can't help. At least... one guy asked permission to take over my computer in order to update ID but then the connection was lost. The next guy told me this wasn't possible at all. Took me a few hours waiting on chat so I am kinda done with it for now.

Thanks everyone for the tips. I did manage to contact support and they provided me with an installer. However... it is version 16.0, so the original unpatched one... And for my workflow (WoodWing) I need at least version 16.3. However, there is no way to update this standalone version so I am stuck nonetheless. I will contact support once more and see what they have to say.

I was very happy to see that after installing ID 2023 I got previews of ALL my ID documents in the Finder of OS X 12.6, even old ones (though not all). Nice. However... every document I saved ever since installing ID 2023 has no preview at ALL. All I see is a white square. What's up?

Thanks for this great tip! Uwe's script tip was nice too but your tip is even easier and quicker to do! Never ever thought about doing it like this! I just tested it with my 'template' document and it works like a charm. Extremely easy and very fast! (Luckily in my case it isn't a problem at all that the pdf files names are changed to numbers!)

Every week I have to impport 100 seperate pdf's into an InDesign document. Each pdf has to fill an entire page. It's rather easy to do with the document I prepared: I simply load all 100 pdf's at once and then click once on every single page. But... a computer should be able to automate this somehow so I shouldn't have to click a 100 times! I know about the multiple-page-pdf-import but this isn't about ONE pdf with 100 PAGES, this is about 100 SEPERATE pdf's. Is there a trick or option I am overlooking? A script somewhere maybe? As I said, having to click on an empty page a 100 times is doable but not too much fun... 😉

Bummer... it's reoccurring indeed: a few times already in this short period of time the color settings had been set wrong automatically again... I saved presets for ID, Illustrator and Photoshop so I can quickly restore my prefered settings but obviously it's a drag having to check the setting multiple times a day...!

WE HAVE A WINNER!!! 😉 You made my day! I just KNEW something had changed somehow! The color settings were all changed indeed and that caused the problem! And I say 'all' because the settings were also changed in Illustrator! And to add to that: I still use InDesign 2020 and afaik there hasn't been an update for that version lately but I did update Illustrator and Photoshop a while ago and it seems this bug also has an impact on older ID versions...! Odd! I also had to change the setting, quit and restart both ID en Illustrator in order for the change to stick: at first I simply changed the settings, clicked OK, but after switching to other programs and back again the settings were reverted again...! Luckily changing them, quitting the programs and then restarting them did the trick. All is back to normal again, awesome! Thanks!!!

As I said, something must have changed because imported pdf's look good in old documents but when I import the exact same pdf into that document the newly imported pdf looks awful. Something has changed and something is wrong...

Thanks, but I already posted that 'solution' myself. 😉 The problem is that I never needed to do this before: I could always work with the regular preview and get a good preview. But now all imported pdf's look terrible. Working on the high quality preview all the time makes things a bit slower and sluggish.
